Another V12 is dead. Just got the news from Mercedes that 2019 is the last year of the S65 Coupes and Cabriolets
Never driven an S65 Coupe but I’ve driven a G65, Maybach, and CL600 and the motor is just so smooth. Sad to see it go

There’s no reason for it anymore. The current V8's are so much better. However that doesn't mean I'm not still hoping they'll build a modern V12, maybe based on the new I6.

Me: I want a V12 GT car. Maybe a Bentley , Ferrari, or Aston Martin
Dalmier: But what about this car from a mass-market brand for a similar same price?

A V12 Ferrari is gonna be like 400k as opposed to 200 something . Same with the rolls and bentley iirc.
I’ve driven a wraith and continental and they honestly feel a little chintzy and not as well put together. If you care more about the badge then go for the Bentley, but the S65 is probably the better driving car with more tech.
Definitely a very niche market car but still sad to see it go

Let them build a new 6.0TT V12, but this time with ALL the torque. We need twelve-cylinder engines to survive as a species.

I heard whispers of a new quad cam 48 valve unit being developed, did they can that motor or was it nothing more than a rumor.

I haven't heard anything more than you have. But I also got the hint years ago there was a possibility of an M278 based V12. But the M278 is basically gone now so that seems unlikely. Who knows. I'm sure if something ever comes around the press will know about it before me.

I know Benz plans on keeping a V12 around for the next generation of Maybach, and that they also recently copywrited the “S680” name plate so I’m really not sure what’s going on. The M275/279 is pretty ancient at this point, so it wouldn’t totally surprise if Benz threw together a new more efficient V12 to carry Maybach into the future.
